Driving in Samoa

Things you should know about driving in Samoa:

  • Since September 2009 driving in Samoa is on the left-hand side of the road, i.e. the vehicles are right-hand drive. Since this change has occurred recently there are a number of left-hand drive vehicles on the road. Therefore, extreme caution must be taken on the road.
  • By law all visitors who wish to drive are required to obtain a temporary drivers' license (permit). This, regardless whether you hold an international drivers' license in your home country. For your convenience we now can issue Temporary Drivers' Licenses at our office at the time of your rental - no need to go across town and stand in long queues!
  • Obtain a Road Code booklet from the drivers' license office and familiarise yourself with Samoa road code and speed requirements.
